Abstract

Practicing Islamic teaching, challenges in halal food and nutrition, as well as current social problems are among the main problems faced by Muslims. The question is, can one’s food and nutrition affect human akhlaq and is there any relationship between them? Hence, this study aims to identify the concept of halalan toyyiba, identify the importance of halalan toyyiba food, examine the relationship of halalan toyyiba food and nutrition with akhlaq, as well as examine the relationship of khabith food and nutrition with akhlaq. The qualitative study used two methods of data collection. First, the documents of Tafsir al-Qurtubi and Tafsir al-Mishbah were analyzed by focusing on the verses in the al-Quran that contained the words related to food such as halal, toyyib, haram and khabith. Second, the interview data that involved four experts in the field of science and Islamic law that were chosen through purposive sampling method. All the data were analyzed using NVivo 7.0 software. The finding of the result managed to produce the concept pattern of halalan toyyiba, the pattern of the importance of halalan toyyiba, the relationship pattern of halalan toyyiba food and nutrition with akhlaq, as well as the relationship pattern of haram and khabith food and nutrition with akhlaq. The results from the pattern of the finding and discussion of the study had also produced four models that made this study more special and unique, which are the Model of Halalan Toyyiba Concept, the Model of the Importance of Halalan Toyyiba Food, the Model of the Relationship between Halalan Toyyiba Food with Akhlaq, as well as the Model of the Relationship between Haram and Khabith Food with Akhlaq. All patterns and models produced from this study can be used as an early guidance for various parties, especially academicians for further research in the future.
