Abstract
In recent years, BIM is widely accepted by the construction industry due to its practical function and visualisation. Promotion of BI M adoption becomes overwhelmed in Architecture, Engineering and Construction industry because of its capability to improve the project quality, enhance collaboration and decrease the disputes across disciplines. However, the Algerian construction market la cks implementing new technologies. In Algeria, architects, engineers and contractors are still basing on CAD drawings and producing 3D models for visualisation while international companies investing there are implementing BIM. Recently, some efforts have been made to introduce BIM technology and starting gradually implementing it through training and workshops. Hence, this study represents a part of a PhD research that aims to develop a holistic framework of BIM implementation in Algerian AEC industry. As a preliminary step, it is essential to identify the challenges and propose the best practices of BIM implementation. Based on a survey, this paper aims to provide an overall understanding of the challenges facing architects engineers and contractors to implement BIM. Furthermore, this paper objective is to propose the best practices and suggest a mechanism of preliminary BIM implementation in the Algerian AEC industry.
