Exploring the implementation of turnaround leadership practice among principal in primary schools

Abstract

The study was designed to determine the Implementation of turnaround leadership practice among principals in primary schools and teacher's competencies differences based on teacher's gender and years of service in Sabah. Besides, this study also tries to identify the relationship between turnaround leadership practice of principals and the level of the competency among the teachers in schools. Thus the model of turnaround leadership by Fullan which consisted of ten elements of change was employed in this study. Sample for this study involved teachers448 teachers from six zones in the State of Sabah. The collected data was analysed using descriptive statistics to examine primary teacher's demographic and also the level of practice for turnaround around leadership and level of teacher's competency. Further, the inferential statistics namely the MANOVA was used to identify differences practice of turnaround leadership and primary school teacher's competency based on gender and years of service. The finding revealed that the level of practice for turnaround leadership and their competency were considered as high. The findings revealed there are no significant difference in turnaround leadership practice of school principals based on gender. The finding also shows that there are no significant difference in teacher's competency based on gender and years of service at school. In addition there are significant relationship between turnaround leadership practice of principals with teacher's competency in school.
