The influence of success factors toward software development project success

Abstract

Many studies had shown that the rate of project success is unacceptable low. This is negatively impact to the individual and organization performance. This study presents some results and discusses on the influence of the success factor toward project success. By identifying the success factors in early project stages and understand the influence of the success factor, action can be taken to the success factors to increase the success rate. The study focus on the software development and the respondents selected among the software practitioners. From literature review, it is shows that the project success is influenced by the success factor. The survey conducted in form of questionnaires distributed using electronic medium to known software practitioners. The success factor studied is Project Team, Project, Project Management and Client Involvement while Project Success is measured using cost, time, value and quality. The results are analyze and supported by the literature review. The study shows that there is an influence of the success factors towards project success and among those success factors, Project Team is the important factor perceived by the respondent. Project Team factors shows that the team must have the skills and technical knowledge to execute the project. This is covering from Project Manager to all projects personal. With this study, able to shows the influence of the success factor and it is important to identify the success factor at the early of project inception in order to ensure high success rate.
