Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate teachers’ perception on the effectiveness of staff development programme (PPS). This study is focused on nine research questions. The research instrument used is questionnaire to observe the teachers’ perception on the effectiveness of PPS. The PPS level is studied from aspects related to teachers’ teaching skill, teachers’ growth need and teachers’ motivation. A total of 85 teachers from SMK Sri Rahmat, Johor Bahru are chosen to be the respondents. Data that has been collected is analyzed using Statistical Package yOr The Social Science (SPSS 13.0) to find the mean, frequency and standard deviation, while t-test and ANOVA are used to analyze the hypothesis. The findings showed that the teachers’ perception on the effectiveness of PPS to increase the teachers’ teaching skill was moderate. Meanwhile, the teachers’ perception on the effectiveness of PPS to fulfill the teachers’ growth need and to enhance the teachers’ motivation was high. As for the hypothesis, there are no significant differences between the male and female teachers on their perception towards the effectiveness of PPS in increasing the teachers’ teaching skill, teachers’ growth need and teachers’ motivation. Apart from that, there are no significant differences between the teachers’ teaching experiences and their perception on the effectiveness of PPS in increasing the teachers’ teaching skill, teachers’ growth need and teachers’ motivation.
