Abstract
Learning disability is a common problem facing by murid pemulihan khas. The Kahoot application is one of the game -based learning methods used in the teaching and learning process to encourage active involvement and interest of students. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of the use of Kahoot application on motivation, perception and achievement for vocabulary teaching among murid pemulihan khas. This study used a quasi-experimental quantitative research method with one group sample of pre-posttest design. The respondents who involved in this study were 10 murid pemulihan khas from a primary Chinese school in Kluang. The instruments of the study used the Intrinsic Motivation Inventory (IMI) instrument and the Perception Instrument which both have been adopted by the researcher. Meanwhile, the vocabulary test was self-developed by the researcher. Data were analyzed descriptively and inferentially using the Wilcoxon Signed-rank test. The results of descriptive analysis of intrinsic motivation showed an increment between the median scores of the pre-posttest in the aspects of competence and autonomy while there was no change for the aspects of relationship. However, the analysis of the perception questionnaire showed an increment between the median scores of the pre-posttest in both aspects of interaction and knowledge. The results of the analysis of student achievement in the vocabulary test showed an increment between the mean scores of the pre-posttest. The results of the inferential analysis of the Wilcoxon Test showed that a significant effect sowed by all the three variables which are intrinsic motivation, perception and achievement after the use of Kahoot application in vocabulary teaching towards murid pemulihan khas. In general, the results of the study indicate that the use of Kahoot application in vocabulary teaching successfully increases the intrinsic motivation and perception of murid pemulihan khas thus improving their vocabulary achievement. Therefore, this Kahoot application is recommended as an alternative teaching tool to teachers in the teaching and learning process by using game-based learning methods.
