Abstract
Most of the higher education institutions in Malaysia have a specific unit or department which handle the collection and distribution of zakat in their institutions. This study aims to examine asnafs’ perception on the process and effectiveness of the zakat distribution to fi sabilillah asnaf which has been implemented by the Zakat Unit, Islamic Centre, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). The samples in this study are UTM students who have received zakat from the Zakat Unit. A set of questionnaire is distributed to the respondents and analyzed descriptively by using IBM SPSS version 22. The reliability value of this questionnaire is ? = 0.845. This study indicates the zakat distribution to fi sabilillah asnaf that is implemented by the Zakat Unit, UTM is well positioned. Respondents also agree that the Zakat Unit of UTM as a zakat management centre eases the burden among students in pursuing their studies.
