Penghayatan agama Islam sebagai mediator dalam hubungan antara persekitaran sosial dengan salah laku seksual pelajar Islam

Abstract

Sexual misconduct amongst Islamic teenagers is increasingly widespread today, this problem has raised concerns over various parties. Hence, a more focused study on the social environment of Islamic adolescents has been conducted to address the sexual misconduct of Islamic adolescents. This study investigated the appreciation of Islam as a mediator in the relationship between the social environment of the adolescents (parental and child attachment, the application of religious values, peer influence, mass media influence) and sexual misconduct among Muslim adolescents. A set of questions were piloted to establish its validity and reliable questionnaires were used to measure each study variable. The sample consists of 279 form four students from several urban and rural secondary schools in the Batu Pahat District. Correlation analysis, multiple regression and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) were used to test the research questions. The findings of this study show the attachment of parents and children, the application of religious values and the appreciation of Islam have significant direct relationship on sexual misconduct among Muslim teenagers. Application of religious values is also found to play a significant mediating role in the relationship between social environment and sexual misconduct. The findings of this study can be used as a reference in preventing sexual misconduct amongst Muslim teenagers. The quality of family institutions and the enhancement of Islamic religious knowledge in the community should be emphasized in order to produce a good society.
