Abstract

During postgraduate studies, married students face many challenges. Married students need to balance their academic demands with their marital relationship. An inability to face these challenges may have a negative impact on marital quality. Based on these concerns, this study aimed to identify postgraduate students' perception on marital quality. A total of 135 respondents (UTM = 45, UKM = 45, UPM = 45) participated. Data was collected using purposive sampling technique. All respondents were asked to complete Marital Quality Questionnaire (MQQ). Data was analysed using Winsteps Software. Based on Rasch Measurement Model, findings revealed firstly, married postgraduate students have less positive perceptions on acceptance aspect. Secondly, social support aspect was moderately evaluated by married postgraduate students. Lastly, the findings also revealed postgraduate students have high positive perceptions on companionship aspect. The findings provide useful information for counsellors and psychologists to come out with suitable intervention for married postgraduate students.
