Abstract

Anger is a social problem which leads to irrational behaviour. It is believed that anger is associated with antagonistic personality. Antagonistic personalities. Antagonistic personalities tend to influence people towards immediate verbal attacks, as well as hurting, and opposing others. Therefore, in this study, researchers aim an anger treatment. Researchers used gestalt therapy for a client who experienced marital relationship problems. Participant of this study came from a counselling case study. In counselling, participants are usually called as clients. Three weeks of gestalt of therapy treatment were applied to client. During treatment, five intervention strategies were used, which included counsellor-client relationship, unfinished business, phenomenological inquiry, exaggerate movement, and empty chair. The findings showed that client was able to control his anger towards his wife. The study shows gestalt therapy is able to change client irrational thinking to rational and realistic. The client realized that it was unfair to make negative judgments towards his wife. Gestalt therapy helped the client reach his insight. At the end of the treatment, the client was able to control his anger and learned the way to seek forgiveness. In conclusion, this study provides useful information for counsellors to understand how gestalt therapy works for anger treatment.
