Abstract

Problem solving is a critical element in learning science and mathematics especially in Physics. However, based on the results from a few of assessments, it showed the situation is worrying. Recently, many studies that have been done were focusing on how to teach problem solving. However, it is found that social support from parents can also influence student's problem skill ability. So this study will describe the influence of this factor towards problem solving in Physics among parents who their children's were at boarding schools. The data was gathered by using semi-structured interviews and then analyzed thematically. Results indicated that there are a number of social support given by the parents, that are emotional support, educational support, relationship support and learning material support. These supports were stated as an important factors and thus give a positive impact to them in solving problems in Physics.
