Abstract
Cold-formed Steel (CFS) is a structural material for civil engineering work such as a roof truss system, wall panel and frame. The objective of this paper, CFS with channel shape is cut as a stub or short column to determine the mechanical behaviour of the column. Samples with the same of CFS section properties, but two different end support condition, namely Support React 1 (SR1) and Support React 2 (SR2) are produced. Both samples are tested for compression load and determined their material properties, ultimate load, web deformation and flange deformation. The experimental data are compared with the Eurocode 3, Direct Strength Method (DSM) and finite element modelling from ABAQUS software. It showed that the SR2 has higher value of ultimate load compared with the SR1. The SR2 also showed highest stiffness on the web and flange deformation when compared to SR1. Both samples showed the lower value in ultimate load resistance when compared to Eurocode 3, DSM and modelling and all gave a ratio below 1.00.
