Abstract
Much has been lamented globally about the ineffective performance of the construction industry resulting in the introduction of new concepts, technology, procurement methods and construction techniques to address the setbacks. Amongst others it includes new concepts such as Building Information Modelling (BlM) and relationship-based procurement in the form of partnering and alliancing which have been suggested may facilitate and improve the performance of construction projects. BIM is the current cutting edge in construction industry and the implementation has significantly arisen around the world. Though it may be used in the absence of collaboration between the parties in a project, such practices would defeat the prime intention of its introduction to the sector. It may act as a central information resource which requires intensive communication and interdependence. Procurement methods which promote relationship-based concepts are gaining popularity too as the benefits proclaimed numerous. The paper at hand outlines the possibilities of integrating the two concepts together in the implementation of construction projects. The theories underpinning BlM and relationship-based procurement would be used as the basis for the discussion in highlighting the prospects of the integration of the two concepts together.
