Abstract

Rural economic activity is growing in line with current developments. Presently the core of rural economic development is no longer confined only to resource-based economy. Current developments have influenced the pattern of economic activity today. The Ministry of Rural and Regional Development likewise undertakes the approach by creating competition between villages to appreciate the efforts of villagers to develop their village. Qualifying villages can join the Rural Excellence Award competition as a platform for raising the name of their village. Competition occurs at sub district, district, state and national levels. The national winners will receive prize money as well as incentives from government projects. Various activities can be organized and prepared to expand their economic activities. What is more important however is that they should strive to maintain the activities created it in order to remain sustainable. Then, the winner will be their mentor to other villages. The sustainability of economic activity would be emphasized so as to be continued by the next generation.
