Abstract
This study aims to determine the daily implementation of solat (prayer) among the Muslim students of Johor Community College. This is due to the fact that many people especially the lecturers believed that the understanding and implementation of solat is weak among the student. This study contains five main objectives; the religious knowledge of solat, the practice of solat, the main factors that influence the students to perform the obligatory solat, the factors that influence them to disobey the compulsory solat and the effects felt by students performing the obligatory solat. The respondents in this study consist of randomly selected Muslim students from the Johor Community Colleges. A total of 419 from 1408 Muslim students were selected for this purpose. The methodology of the study is the use of quantitative methods through questionnaires survey. The data were analyzed using the software "Statistical Package for Social Sciences" (SPSS) version 20.0 for descriptive statistics to obtain mean, percentage, standard deviation and Pearson correlation statistical inference for the relationship between variables. The reliability of the questionnaire items derived from this study through the pilot study was high with Croanbach Alpha of 0.957. In addition, the content and validity of the content through the approval of experts also noted the results of a very high overall average Cohen Kappa value of 0.93. Results showed that high knowledge regarding the solat has not resulted in consistent practice of prayer. This is because the implementation of solat is only at moderate level and still need to be improved. Subsequent findings showed that the dominant factor for students performing solat were parent’s upbringing whilst the dominant factor for students leaving solat were their own lazy attitude. Further findings also indicated that the effect of solat towards faith and morality showed a high impact to the students. However, there is no high direct impact on the regular practice of solat. Thus the study recommends more programs, courses as well as solat camps to be organized for the students in order to increase awareness and motivate them to practice solat in their daily life.
