Abstract

One of the main factors for good learning is a good classroom without speech intelligibility .When the acoustic of a classroom is not good it cause to more repetition between teacher and students because the word are not clear. The purpose of the research is improving the acoustic quality for the classroom and it helps to student for better learning. The Classrooms in Faculty of Civil Engineering at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia is chosen as a case study in this research. Reverberation time which is the most important factor in acoustic was determined using theoretical calculation and simulation. The improvements of acoustic quality were made by modification of some properties of the classroom materials to ensure the reverberation time not exceeding the standard. Consequently, the acoustic environment can be improved with the replacement of painted concrete at side of walls with material which has high sound absorption such as Kenaf fiber or fiberglass
