Abstract

This study aims to examine the process and the level of adoption of innovation in technology-based training by UiTM stage in the process of using the model results based on the Theory of Innovation by Everett M. Diffusion of Innovation Rogers. This study focuses on the five stages of the process knowledge, persuasion, decision, implementation and confirmation to identify the process of adopting innovations through three different levels of the organization, trainers and trainees. This study used qualitative method to study the process of adopting the innovation in technology-based training by the organization as a whole. While the quantitative method, it is used to examine characteristics that influence innovation decision process in technology-based training by trainers and trainees. For qualitative methods, face to face interview was conducted by taking seven samples as the respondent which are the responsible person for human resource development in the organization. For quantitative methods, data obtained from 397 respondents through a questionnaire that was distributed online using Google Docs via staff e-mail to staff at Universiti Teknologi MARA, Shah Alam. Data for the qualitative method were analyzed using transcription process using themes that have been determined and quantitative methods were analyzed using SPSS version 20.0. The findings from face to face interview found that organizations are moving towards the adoption process innovation in training for its employees. Administrators have emphasized the overall innovation characteristics in the process of adopting this innovation and taking into account the needs and views of staffs to develop innovations that are effective and employees tend to use it. While quantitative methods of research findings for trainers and trainees have found that the level of adoption of innovation is high. For trainers, the most important thing in accepting innovation is a feature found on the observability of the innovation. For trainees, the most important thing is the complexity of features.
