Abstract
A lot of research has been conducted in finding other alternative material in order to be used as a modifier in asphalt mixes for the purpose of improving its properties. This study presents a laboratory evaluation on the performance of hot mix asphalt (HMA) using recycled crumb rubber as an additive. Fine crumb rubber (0.150mm to 0.425mm) recycled from discarded truck tires, was used to modify asphalt mixes using Marshall Mix design through dry process. The aggregate gradation used was AC14. The percentages of crumb rubber added were 1 and 3 percent by weight of the total aggregates. Then, samples were prepared and tested for Indirect Tensile Strength Test and Cantabro Test. Based on the result, it was observed that the performance of HMA mixes was significantly affected with the addition of crumb rubber. Rubber modified asphalt mixes were found to have better Stability and resistance to stone loss at high frequency compared to conventional mix. The results also indicate that one percent of crumb rubber added gave better overall performance
