Abstract

Sustainable development is not a new concept in the scenario of our life as it has been discussed widely in United Nation conferences such as Agenda 21 and Habitat Agenda before been introduced in Malaysia . The field of sustainable development can be conceptually broken into three constituent parts: environmental sustainability ,economic sustainability and social sustainability . Malaysia has affirmed its policy on sustainable in the 7th Malaysia Plan in response to the Agenda 21 . This 7th Malaysia Plan describes Malaysia’s ability to develop in sustainable manner .Construction has been accused of causing environmental problems ranging from excessive consumption of global resources both in terms of construction and building operation to the pollution of the surrounding environment . This research , therefore , deliberated a focus on Electrified Double Track Project between Ipoh to Padang Besar . The objectives of this research were to identify the awareness of construction personnel in sustainable development and sustainable construction at their works site .The site personnel such as consultant engineer , construction manager , engineers and technical staff were approached to get their response towards the persistence of the construction activities which is contribute impact to environment . The findings of this research identified the causes of problems in construction activities and the proposed solutions and implementation construction principle to improve the current site situation , The recommendation listed provides further enhancement in sustainable construction in Electrified Double Track Project .
