Abstract

One of the remains of British rule in this country is the existence of historical building and most of them are still occupied until today. Located on a hill called Bukit Timbalan the Sultan Ibrahim Building is perhaps the single most distinctive landmark of Johore Bahru. Today, it houses the State Secretariat, and other departments of Johore State Government. Due to its age, there are problems with the external and internal physical aspect of the building. In order to have a conducive condition to all staff and people who use the building, reliable and effective maintenance system is needed. This effective maintenance system is conducted with modern technology and high quality materials. Nowadays, the development of intelligent building for office is become a trend. So, the Sultan Ibrahim Building needs improvement in its management and maintenance method, to retain its distinctive and unique structure of the building. From observation and interview with the staff of Sultan Ibrahim Building, the building seems not having a good maintenance system that can be used to manage the effective maintenance system for old building like Sultan Ibrahim Building. Here are also found out that, financial problem and difficulties in getting raw material is a main factor where this research found.
