Abstract

The aim of this article is to highlight the benefits of implementing 5D BIM for controlling and managing project costs to ensure that the project is completed on time and on budget. Additionally, crucial success criteria will be highlighted, as well as a recommended implementation roadmap. 5D BIM enables cost overruns to be avoided and the cost monitoring and control function to be improved. Similarly, 5D BIM is dependent on the availability and accuracy of data. Cleansing and preparing the data for usage in the simulation model is required. Adopting an effective implementation roadmap will produce an accurate and reliable cost performance report. The project team will alert the client of cost discrepancies in advance.
