Abstract
The curriculum review of the Primary School Standard Curriculum (KSSR) in 2017 has improved in many aspects. In the same year, level one students were involved in changing the learning context for the mastery of Science Process Skills. This is due to the fact that school children still face problems in mastering and understanding Science Process Skills (KPSS) resulting in a decline in achievement from year to year. Students are not able to describe well and experience misconceptions in Science Learning so that they are not able to master KPS optimally. Therefore, this study was conducted to design science learning activities that can help students' understanding to be clearer and further support the mastery of KPS. Based on the elements in the continuum of visualization thinking, this study provides learning activities with the help of visual media in improving students' understanding in understanding the learning of Science as well as supporting the development of Science Process Skills. The use of visual media in the learning process and activities is implemented in stages so that the development of a student's level of visualization can increase well. In fact, the level of visualization of primary school students evolves from visual thinking to visual learning and lastly the highest is visual communication known as the visualization thinking continuum. This visual continuum was introduced by McLoughin & Krakowski (2001). The development of this visualization supports the improvement of students ’achievement in their Science learning. The use of these visual media is integrated together through the web in student learning called APS-TeWeV. This study refers to a quasi-experimental study design that involves quantitative and qualitative data through data collection from pre and post tests in identifying changes in students 'knowledge and preparation of learning activities in stages in promoting student KPS mastery, while obtaining students' perceptions of this study. The study sample consisted of 30 primary school students, with the use of a visual website named APS-TeWeV. The findings of the study found that there was a significant effect in student achievement before and after the treatment of Science learning with the integration of APS-TeWeV, as well as in turn has helped in the mastery of Science process skills of students to a better level. While referring to the analysis of perception data, students have displayed good interest and acceptance by them towards learning Science with the joint use of visual media through the web technology.
