Abstract
Multicomponent tellurite glasses containing altered concentrations of Er2O3 (ranging from 0.0 to 2.0 mol%) were prepared via melt quenching method. The effects of various Er3+concentration on the structure, optical and electrical properties of the prepared glasses were examined. The XRD pattern of the as-quenched samples verified their amorphous nature. The FTIR spectra revealed the existence of different B–O and Te–O vibrational groups. The direct and indirect optical band gap energies were decreased with the increase in Er3+ contents. The PL spectra showed three prominent peaks located at 536, 550 and 632 nm, wherein the emission intensities were quenched due to the addition of Er3+ ions. The frequency dependent ac conductivity of the glasses was increased with the increase in Er3+ doping contents which was due to the hopping mechanism. The glass prepared with 0.5 mol% of Er3+ was found to be the optimum.
