The deteriorated females in Eugene O’Neill’s plays strange interlude and desire under the Elms

Abstract

This paper is projected to examine the degree to which the main female characters (Nina, the protagonist of Strange Interlude and Abbie, the protagonist of Desire Under the Elms) get deteriorated in O‘Neill‘s two plays. The study adopts Glasser‘s seven perspectives which reflect the deadly habits that ruin relationships. The paper offers an additional understanding to O‘Neill‘s plays in lights of Glasser‘s choice theory and his conceptions of, Blaming, Complaining, Nagging, Threatening, Punishing, and Bribing or rewarding to control as they uncover the conditions that lead to the females‘ deterioration. Results assign that these female characters get deteriorated through the above mentioned components of choice theory. The study infer that the two female characters are deteriorated by their loved ones and both males and females are ruining each other‘s life by those means.
