Abstract
The purpose of this study is to identify 1) the dominant factors (parents, school and friends) that lead to loitering behavior 2) the loitering behavior index among secondary school students 3) the relation between loitering behavior and the role of parents, school and friends and 4) the different between the loitering behavior and gender, residential area and school area. A total of 386 students have been chosen among six secondary schools in Johor state. The questionnaire consists three sections. They are respondents background, dominant factors and level of loitering behavior respectively. The reliability value, of the questionnaire in section B is 0.7675 and section C is 0.6047. SPSS programme version 11.5 have been used for data analysis. Descriptive statistics (frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation) were used to analysis the dominant factors that influence loitering behavior and its level. Inferential statistics such as t-test was used to analysis the different between loitering behavior and gender, residential area and school area. Pearson correlation was used to analysis the relation between loitering behavior and the role of parents, school and friends. The finding show that 1) the index of loitering behavior is 34.4 2) there are negative significance relation between loitering behavior and the role of parents, school and friends at r = 0.01 significance level 3) there are no significance difference between loitering behavior and gender, residential area and school area at p = 0.05 significance level.
