Abstract
Offshore structures are exposed to wind-generated random wave loading in the ocean environment and the response is often non-Gaussian characteristics. Consequently, simple procedures for derivation the probability distribution of extreme responses are not available. The most accurate method for predicting the extreme responses in such condition is the Monte Carlo Time Simulation (MCTS) technique. However, it is computationally very demanding as reliable results require a large number of simulations. Currently, finding shows that an Efficient Time Simulation (ETS) method offered a more efficient technique without sacrificing accuracy. This study is aimed to improve the ETS method by taking advantage of their excellent correlation between extreme surface elevation and their corresponding structural responses. Prediction of the 100-year extreme responses between proposed models (ETS-Regression) and the MCTS method will be investigated to establish their level of accuracy. In this paper, the technique could be used for both drag-dominated and inertia-dominated (quasi-static) responses.
