Kecerdasan emosi (EQ) dalam kalangan penghidap HIV di sebuah rumah perlindungan

Abstract

The negative stigma of society towards HIV and AIDS patients has led to isolation, low self-esteem, and lack of social confidence. Indirectly, rejection from many quarters has left them depressed, scared and lost. This study aimed to explore the emotional intelligence (EQ) of HIV sufferers and the methods used when they are in an unstable emotional state. Respondents were selected for the purpose of being housed at an HIV protection facility in Selangor. This study used semi-structured interview method which was transcribed and analyzed using thematic method. The results showed that the respondents were able to identify the emotions they were experiencing: sadness, frustration, fear and stress. They accept their condition, allowing them to motivate, advise and empathize with other HIV sufferers. In addition, spiritual practices and daily activities greatly assist HIV sufferers in dealing with emotional instability. In addition, encouragement from shelter staff and family plays a role in emotional stability. It is hoped that the findings of this study will provide insight into HIV, family and home protection on emotional intelligence (EQ) and the ability to address emotional instability among HIV and AIDS patients.
