Abstract
The most visible feature that is more important to an image is the shape. Shape representation is a difficult process and requires many techniques, feature extraction is taken as the most significant point for shape representation. However, the researchers' attention is focused on creating an accurate shape descriptor which used to recognize the pattern, the accuracy of the recognition system depends on the accuracy of the features extracted from the images. In this paper, we introduce in detailed out the basic techniques that used in extracting the shape descriptors, classifying these techniques and determining their respective advantages and disadvantages.
