Abstract
Metacognition is about an individuals' awareness about their own thinking. Metacognitive skills require students to plan, monitor and evaluate their thinking. However, the lack of students' ability to apply these skills requires further investigation. Previous studies suggest technology implementation in learning and teaching is useful to promote metacognitive skills but insufficient empirical results were reported. Therefore, the purpose of this meta-analysis is to identify the effect of technology implementation in learning and teaching on students' metacognition. Articles retrieved from Web of Science database were analyzed. Results show that technology implementation can influence students' metacognition depending on the type of technology being used. The different methods of assessing metacognition also require further investigation so that the obtained results will be more reliable.
