Demographic characteristics, dyadic coping, and marital quality among university students in Malaysia

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to determine dyadic coping and marital quality among postgraduate students who already married. Participants belong to from three public universities in Malaysia. Data were collected from 120 postgraduate students, from which 46 respondents were males while 74 respondents were females. The questionnaires used in the study were Dyadic Coping Inventory (DCI) and Relationship Assessment Scale (RAS). Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was used to present the mean difference of dyadic coping and marital quality based on gender and study level. While Post-Hoc Turkey HSD was used to determine the mean difference of nationalities. Findings showed there was a significant differences of dyadic coping and marital quality across gender, study level and nationality. The study provides benefits in terms of direction for academic career and marital relationship intervention.
