Abstract
Starting in January 2013, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) launched a project called Blended Learning Open Source Science or Math Studies (BLOSSOMS) in collaboration with the United States ’ Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The project, supported by the Malaysia Ministry of Education (MoE), intro- duces a new teaching method aimed at encourag- ing students to learn science and mathematics. BLOSSOMS is a technology-based learning resource comprising videos that complement the existing curriculum (http://blossoms.mit. edu). The project ’ s goals include increasing student enrolment and improving performance in science and mathematics education in Malaysia as well as strengthening higher order thinking skills (HOTS) in STEM students.
