Abstract
In the era of globalisation, sole dependence on employee physical capability is not sufficient to increase awareness on occupational safety and health administration. Employee emotion is now considered as an important medium to influence the efficiency of safety practice which includes culture of safety. This study is conducted to identify the effects of emotional intelligence on safety culture at a water supply company in Malaysia. 158 technical staff were selected as respondents through the simple random proportional sampling method. Data collected using the Emotional Intelligence Scale (EIS), Big Five Inventory (BFI) and Social Communication Questionnaire (SCQ) was analysed using the descriptive statistics (mean and percentage) and inference statistics (simple regression and hierarchical regression). Findings show that emotional intelligence leads to significant impact to culture of safety (R2=0.16, p <0.000). Recommendations are given for future studies, as well as to the organisation and the respondents.
