Abstract
This paper presents an Ultra-wideband (UWB) antenna with a bandwidth spanning from 3.1 GHz to 10.6 GHz, and a stop-band notch from 5GHz to 6GHz. The antenna is capable of band rejection of interferences arising from Wireless Local Area Networks (WLAN) at 5.2GHz and Dedicated Short-Range Communications (DSRC) at 5.8GHz. The proposed antenna consists of a rectangular patch fabricated on low-cost 35 mm × 35 mm FR-4 board, of 1.6 mm thickness, and relative permittivity of 4.5. The band-notch characteristic is achieved with a notch slot at the center of the patch. By including a partial ground plane, the antenna achieves a good impedance match over the required UWB frequency range. The measured and simulated results show the antenna has good reflection coefficient performance in the UWB spectrum, with the required band rejection from 5GHz to 6GHz. Furthermore, the novel antenna presents an omni-directional radiation pattern in the H-plane and a nearly monopole-like radiation pattern in the E-plane.
