Abstract
A student has the right to feel safe when living in a campus, and it is the responsibility of the campus administration is to provide a sufficient security and protection for the students. However, there is no clear statement states that students feel safe when they are living in campus. This study focuses on the views of students on their security level in terms of crime aspect. The first objective is to identify the perceptions towards safety of the students in terms of crime on campus in Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. The second objective is to identify measures that can be used to improve safety level of the students. The method used was a questionnaire method. The Frequency Analysis and Reliability Analysis is used as a method to process the data. Through the analysis, the students perception on safety are identified, as well as alternative measures to enhance the security level can also be determined. This study found that the perception of safety is positive from several aspects such as the risk of becoming a victim of crime. However, low perception given to some other aspects such as fear of crime and safety of individuals. Respondents also choose alternative measures that can be used to further enhance the safety of students on campus.
