Abstract

Nowadays, small IT businesses suffer many failures of computer hardware, software and data loss as the highest risk to business disruptions. These disturbances can be addressed by implementing a Business Continuity Plan (BCP) to survive the business from many adverse events. BCP is one of the activities that enable business to continue operating in case of an incident or disaster. Consequently, every business should consider adopting flexible BCP that would be ready for any unpredictable events. However, there are many solutions of the BCP; unfortunately, most of these existing BCP solutions address large companies or multinational companies. Due to this situation, this study will propose a framework of BCP specific for IT small businesses, that will help this type of businesses to operate, compete, and remain profitable. To achieve this purpose, the study gone through three main phases, the first studied and analysed the previous solutions, second designed a framework for small IT businesses and the last verified the effectiveness of the design framework for small IT businesses. To validate the proposed framework, questionnaire distributed to small IT businesses in both Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru states. The result of this study was divided into four main sections. First, discussed general information of small IT businesses second, explored a BCP general knowledge and familiarity third, validated of the propose framework for small IT businesses and finally adopted the proposal BCP framework within small IT businesses. The evaluation of the framework depended on small IT businesses that have produced a BCP. Result of the evaluation was the approximate 4 of 5
