Abstract
Estimation of parking generation of a proposed development such as fast-food restaurants is important in facility planning. Studies of parking generation on various land use types have been conducted by many researchers in western countries (i.e. U.S) but very few have been conducted for the Asian condition. In many cases, parking requirements of proposed developments in Malaysian cities are estimated using models developed for western cities. This may not be appropriate because there are differences in levels of vehicle ownership, public transport service, traffic management as well as land-use planning. Such differences can result in poorly planned facilities. This research was to conduct a study on the parking generation rates of fast-food restaurants in Johor Bahru area. This study considered two (02) parameters that were significantly related to the parking generation rates for the fast-food restaurants. The average parking generation rates developed in this study usng a weighted average rate method, the result also were compared with those reported in ITE Parking Generation Manual were lower than those found in this study.
