Abstract
The function of platelet is to control blood from excessive bleeding and has been used as an indicator of abnormal blood function or health disorders, such as in cases of the dengue fever. The platelet has an irregular shape and is relatively small compared to the red blood cells and the white blood cells. Problems have been reported regarding incorrect identification of platelet due to its minute size. In this study, an algorithm was developed utilizing the Hough transform to automatically detect and count the number of platelets. Five offline images of blood cell were tested where 94.3% average accuracy has been achieved with this technique.
