Abstract
The vertically integrated structure of power industry is being replaced by market structure in the world range. In such a structure a transmission system is being used by multiple generation and load entities that do not own the transmission system. In view of market operation it becomes more important to know the role of individual generators and loads to transmission wires and power transfer between individual generators to loads. Usage allocation refers to power contribution of each generator to each load. The advantage of knowing the usage allocation includes loss allocation associated to each path, cost assignment to transmission line pricing, congestion management, ancillary services and decision on scheduling of generators [1]. The primary objective of this research project is to assess the recent power tracing schemes based on the proportional sharing principle. In this work a study of three different approaches that attempt to offer fair and equitable usage allocation under transmission open access is presented. Numerical examples are provided to compare the performance of each method.
