Abstract
Drilling of Ti-6A1-4V with Supernitride coated carbide tool gave better performance in term of tool life compared to TiAlN coated carbide tool. The use of 25 m/min cutting speed shows improvement in tool life performance. Non-uniform, flank wear, excessive chipping and micro-cracking were the dominant tool failure modes under most tested conditions. Adhesion, attrition and diffusion were the operating wear mechanism on both tools when drilling Ti-6A1-4V.
