Abstract

Every student who ventures into the field of TVET is obliged to study technical subject which are the core and main subject in the education system in Malaysia. However, there have been some complaints among the students stating that only those who possessed high level thinking skills and natural skills can do the task or practice perfectly. Thus, this study was conducted to identify the factors involved in the achievement of practical work of Diploma students who studied Mechanical Engineering in vocational college located in the southern zone of Malaysia. The question to be answered in this study is to identify the factors involved in the achievement of practical work of Diploma students who studied Mechanical Engineering in vocational college located in the southern zone of Malaysia in terms of teaching methods, learning styles, existing skills and learning environment. This study is quantitative survey method which uses questionnaire as its research instrument. A total of 186 respondents were selected from five vocational colleges located in the southern zone of Malaysia. This study uses a questionnaire as its instrument which is divided into two main parts: part A which included background information of the respondents while part B is related to the factor involved in the achievement of practical work of the Diploma students who studied Mechanical Engineering. All data obtained were analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Science software (SPSS) version 25.0. The results of the study found that the data obtained in terms of teaching methods, learning styles, existing skills and learning environment are at a high level. The hypothesis of this study also found that there was no significant difference between the factors involved in the achievement of practical work with genders of the Diploma students who studied Mechanical Engineering. At the end of this study, suggestion for improvements to be made and further study have been submitted to the stakeholders involved, especially in the field of education.
