Abstract

This study was conducted to identify the perceptions of postgraduate students of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) on Heutagogy approach in learning. The Heutagogy approach is an approach that encourages students to acquire knowledge on their own. Students not only receive knowledge from their teacher, but they explore the knowledge themselves. There are three objectives of this study which are first, to find out the knowledge of UTM students on the elements in the Heutagogy approach. The second objective is to identify the relationship between the attitudes of UTM students towards UTM students’ acceptance on Heutagogical approach in learning. While the third objective of this study is to identify the relationship between the ICT facilities of UTM students towards UTM students’ acceptance on Heutagogical approach in learning. The research design is quanttitative. The researcher used survey research as a research method . 90 students of Master of Educational Technology students were selected as respondents. The researcher used simple random sampling techniques for this study. Next, the researcher used a questionnaire as a research instrument in obtaining data. The data were analyzed quantitatively using ‘Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 2.5 software. In this study, the researcher used descriptive and Pearson correlation methods when analyzing the data. The finding showed that the respondents' knowledge on the elements of Heutagogical approach was at a very strong scale for the elements of exploration, creation, collaboration, sharing and reflection. While respondents’ knowledge for connecting elements was at a strong level. In addition, the finding showed that there was a significant relationship between the attitudes of UTM students and UTM students’ acceptance on Heutagogical approach in learning. Researcher also found that there was a significant relationship between UTM student’s facilities and UTM students’ acceptance on Heutagogical approach in learning. As a conclusion, the researcher found that the students accepted the Heutagogical approach in their learning based on the attitudes potray by the students and ICT facilities that they have.
