Abstract
One of the methods in identifying the weaknesses and strengths of training program is through evaluation. The evaluation training results can be used to improve future training programs. This study on ETeMS (English Teaching For Mathematic and Science) is to identify any significant relationship between reactions and learning with results at workplace. Three (reaction, learning and results) of four levels of evaluation from Kirk Patrick (1959) Evaluation Model were used. 50 teachers was randomly selected from a group of 200 Johor Bahru secondary school teachers who attended ETeMS second cohort training course. The teachers involved were those who are teaching mathematics and science form two in the year 2004. 2 sets of questionnaire were completed; the first phase (before training) and the second phase (8 months after training). The findings will describe respondents’ demography, reaction levels, learning and results at workplace. A modified version of questionnaire by Saiful Bahari B Alias (1998) was used to evaluate the training program. Microsoft Excel computer program was used to identify the level of reaction, learning and results, while SPSS 12.0 Windows was used to show relationships between reaction and learning with results. Descriptive statistics was used to observe the demography frequencies of respondents. Inference statistics was used to answer the research questions. While Pearson two-tailed, p < 0.01 was used to investigate the correlations between reaction and learning with results. Findings indicated a positive level of reaction, learning and results towards the training program. Findings also indicated that there was no significant relationship between learning and results at work place. However there was a significant relationship between learning and results at workplace. Some recommendations were suggested to improve the quality of the training program. These findings can be use as aguide for future research on different training programs.
