Abstract

We propose the generation of a multiwavelength spectrum based on Rayleigh backscattering. An erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) and a Lyot filter act as gain medium and comb filter, respectively. A high number of stable lasing lines is achieved at 51 channels with a 21 dB extinction ratio using 18 dBm of EDFA power. The output multiwavelength spectrum is optimized in terms of EDFA power, half-wave plate (HWP) and quarter-wave plate (QWP) manipulation. With maximum EDFA power of 18 dBm, the best lasing lines is produced, assisted by plate adjustment of HWP at an angle of 60° and QWP angle of 105°. The laser stability is excellent at wavelength range at power deviation of 2.22 dB.
