Abstract

Badminton is known as the world's fastest racket sports in the world, where the shuttlecock speed can exceed 200 miles per hour. Agility in badminton, with proper footwork, is required when reaching for an approaching shuttle. While training can improve agility and footwork, most of these trainings are labor intensive, with subjective feedbacks. This project focuses on the development of a sensor-based device to improve footwork and agility training in badminton, providing more objective measurements. An experiment was conducted to test the performance of the training device in measuring reaction time of the badminton players. Five badminton players participated in the experiment and result shows that average reaction time for the player to respond toward a shuttle drop within the badminton court is longer (p=0.02) compared to the time they needed to return to center of the court.
