Abstract

Perak is a state famous for its tin mining. Therefore, mining is one of the sectors that can improve the state economy. The effects of continuous exploration on tin mining in the past have caused these resources to decrease and resulted in the abandonment of mine sites. The reduction in tin resources has not only caused the mine site to be abandoned, but has also created many lakes of former mines that have not been properly managed. The existence of the former mine lake is a real effect of the leftovers of mine activity. Kampar district is one of the districts other than Kinta district which has the highest former mining site in Perak. Therefore, this study was conducted in Kampar district to identify the concepts, procedures and methods of implementing the development of former mine ponds. Apart from that, it is to identify the existing form of planning for the redevelopment of the former mine site and also to study the challenges faced in the implementation of the redevelopment of the former mine site covering the Kampar district area in particular. The data collection method used is with the semi-structured interview method approach to the respondents involved. The selection of respondents consists of employees of the federal government, state government, local authorities and the public. Qualitative analysis methods were used to obtain answers to the findings of this study. The results show that referring to the Kampar District Local Plan 2030, there are several types of mine ponds that have potential to be developed such as aquaculture farming, modern agriculture, flood catchment areas, recreation and research areas. This study also highlights the analysis of the pros and cons of the development of a former mine pond. These studies also have certain advantages and disadvantages if want to redevelop. All parties need to play a specific role and mobilize the cooperation of all parties to better succeed in all activities and development in the Kampar District Local Plan 2030. Overall, the results of this study can be used as one of the important sources of input to the parties involved to make Kampar District Local Plan 2030 a success.
