Abstract
This study was conducted to identify the potential development of MPKu Urban Forest. Since Serah Balik Kurnia Semula (SBKS) process in 2002, MPKu received a total of 192.71 acres of open space to be used as a recreational area with the status of a Regional Park. The concept of Urban Forest development has been chosen to be developed for this area. A total of 30 acres through two phases were developed at a cost of approximately RM 25 million in 2006 and 2008. However, a total of 152 acres or the equivalent of 70% has yet to be developed. This study was conducted to understand the needs and requirements of users for the development component proposal for the third phase and beyond, so that the target and rate of 2 hectares of open space to every 1000 residents can be achieved through questionnaires and expert interviews. The results of the study found that residents and consumers want the existing recreational areas to be upgraded, especially in terms of ancillary facilities and even want a variety of activities. There is also a proposal for MPKu Urban Forest to be a Urban Forest that can be used as a benchmark by providing unique proposals such as being the largest Education Forest in Malaysia, and even there is a proposal to cooperate with FRIM for the purpose of selling carbon off set. This study will be a specific guide to the Urban and Landscape Planning Department of MPKu for the proposed component of Urban Forest development in the future.
