Abstract
Through the Paris Agreement, Malaysia has voluntarily set a target of reducing carbon intensity by up to 45 per cent by 2030. Therefore, civil servants as the backbone of the government play an important role in ensuring that this commitment can be fully fulfilled. Therefore, this study would like to assess the extent of knowledge and awareness of civil servants on the importance of green practices and level of implementation of green practices among civil servants. The objective of this study is to examine the level of awareness of civil servants on green practices and level of implementation of green practices among civil servants. This study was conducted through a quantitative method and a total of 200 respondents from among civil servants under the administration of the Perak Local Authority was selected by structured random sampling to conduct this study. This study uses a survey design involving three parts of the questionnaire, namely the section that covers the level of awareness, implementation of green practices and recommendations to the authorities to encourage green practices in the office. The findings of the study found that the level of awareness of respondents about the green practices of civil servants is high with an average score value of 3.32. Awareness of energy consumption is highest with an average score value of 3.44. The implementation of the green practice of the respondents was also at a high level with an average score value of 3.10. Green energy management practices were also found to be the highest with an average score value of 3.20. This clearly shows that the level of awareness and the level of implementation of green practices among civil servants is high. The results of the study also prove that the level of compliance of civil servants with the General Circular Letter No. 2 of 2014 is good. Furthermore, the suggestions for improvement submitted by the respondents can be categorized into four types, namely facilities, enforcement, incentives and education will certainly be able to help strengthen the culture of green practices among civil servants as well as give a positive influence to the surrounding community. Sustainable development will only be fully achieved if each individual plays their respective roles and responsibilities well.
