Abstract

In the context of globalization, no one can escape from the influence of other cultures. No matter in which country, people need to communicate with people from other cultures and make judgements as well. Therefore, the meaning of intercultural communication competence with critical thinking ability is not only vital to individuals but also to the harmony and peace of the world. This paper discusses the necessities of combining intercultural communication competence with critical thinking in foreign language teaching, and puts forwards practical strategies, including the requirements to teachers and the actions that can be taken in the whole teaching process, namely enquiry-based class activity design, openness and cooperation in forms applied, the use of extracurricular resources as powerful supplements, etc. With good intercultural communication competence and critical thinking ability, the students' mind will open. They would be happy to embrace diversified cultures, rather than simply accepting or excluding other cultures without careful judgment, which is the responsibility for all foreign language teachers.
