Concerns on environmental and climate change has caused nation to step out efforts in environmental protection. Environmental protection is vital for global sustainability and for improving the quality of life. However, efforts in protecting the environment have become a challenging task in the twenty-first century. Malaysia, like many other countries is also facing problems of environmental degradation. Air pollution, storm water management, demolition debris and energy consumption are some examples which cause major environmental impacts due to the construction activities. One of the many ways to protect global environment is by incorporating environmental sustainability into the undergraduate engineering curriculum. These students will graduate and become engineers who will be working in many areas, and their work has a wide and direct range of impacts in all development activities. As a responsible global citizen and leaders of the next generation, it is vital that students develop an understanding of sustainability and human-environmental relations. The success of resolving the environmental issues and concerns depends on how well the students understand and view the environmental and its complexities. This paper highlights the need of incorporating environmental sustainability into engineering curricula in order to fully equip the students with the knowledge of environmental importance at the early stage of their career.
