Abstract

A simulation program called "Wavelet Extractor" has been developed that able to provide the identification of power quality disturbance problems present in both transient and steady-stable signals. The approach was developed by using the Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) analysis. The given signal was decomposed through Wavelet Transform. Energy curve of the given signal was evaluated and a relationship between this energy curve and the one of the reference signal (pure sinusoidal) was established. "Wavelet Extractor" was developed by using Wavelet toolbox and GUI builder in MATLAB. "Wavelet Extractor" was implemented and its results showed that each type of power quality disturbance has unique deviations from the pure sinusoidal waveform. This can be adopted to provide a reliable classification of the type of disturbance.
